I know this might sound sour grapes in light of yesterdays hearing but does anybody else think that its credible (and time) for a breakaway governing body for Rugby League? Its been known for years now that the current regime at Redhall is doing our sport no favours. There poor running of the greatest game is costing us with huge gains being made by the other code all around the country and indeed globally.
Poor sponsorship deals for the Title of the main competition and lengthy contract for TV deals on poor money and poor coverage. Inconsistencies with disciplinary records and the poor state the refereeing situation has been allowed to decline into and the fact that if we are honest the sport isn't moving forwards.
After a successful 2013 World cup nothing was done to capitalise on those new fans attracted and now all we are left with is that painful last min NZ try in the semi final to remember it by.
Further chopping and changing of the competition format and moving the goalpost regarding licensing, promotion and relegation and me Super 8's format and you feel as though the people running the sport are guessing at what to do next rather than forging a way into the future.
I for one feel that its time for the clubs to vote with there feet and walk away from the RFL. A new governing body should be formed along with new leagues new sponsorships and TV deals pushing our sport forward. I know Salford would not be the only club to jump if indeed it did come to that.

It should happen, but unfortunately it won't!
It baffles me some of the decision making that goes on at The RFL. Especially this Toronto team to compete in League 1! I'm sure at RFL meeting regarding the expansion of Rugby League, Nigel Wood puts on a blindfold and throws a dart at a map on the wall. The city it lands on, gets a spot! The RFL can't even successfully expand the game in the same country as it's base let alone a different continent.
I for one will be more than happy to get rid of the out of touch, out dated RFL, they are the equivalent of a telegram in the digital age!

I totally agree the RFL have been holding our great sport back for years, no fore sight or vision run by fossils of a yester year.
I'm not sure a break away would work though, there just isn't enough financial backing and could set us back even further, the last thing you'd want is to break away and then it go tits up.
And This considering a Canadian team is ludicrous, I know it's not SL but we couldn't even support franchises from Paris and Wales and make them a success. I know the Canadians have said they will fund all the other teams travel, but how is that sustainable? All the teams in league 1 are part time how do players jolly off to Canada for 3-4 days.
There needs a complete restructure of the governing body, but who do they answer to?
I for one would do a complete overhual at the top and move heaven and earth to bring in Damian Irvine to sort our sport out if we have any chance of moving forward.

Agree the sports governing body are no longer fit for purpose but a breakaway would be almost impossible to achieve.
Maybe the way forward is to make the governing body stand for election, say every five years, that would go someway to making them accountable.
I think it's more likely that clubs would support an elected rfl rather than a full breakaway.

That seems the most likely way forward, let the clubs decide just as long Hetherington doesn't pop up somewhere.

Agreed.
Although I like the ambition of the Toronto team and if a private investor is paying for all there costs (I can't see them making any money) then it can only bring exposure to a new country and the possibility of increasing international TV rights deals.
Would prefer expansion into more realistic territories such as Scotland, Ireland or South Africa.
How many would love an away day to Dublin?

I've said that Dublin would be the obvious place for an overseas franchise, don't actually think there is a professional sporting team that actually calls itself Dublin, not my cup of tea but you can see it being a huge away day every other weekend and certainly easier to get to the than Catalan.

I think we should be looking even closer in the first instance... Why has more not been made of the Cumbrian area. Invest some money in those teams and get them up and running then expand into Scotland. The expansion has to slowly spread from the 'heartlands' and grow on our own doorstep before we start throwing lines out to Canada and France although I do feel this expansion is needed. By all means if these countries want to set up Rugby League competitions, lets guide them and help them set up leagues of there own. But to throw them into a British league is the worst kind of expansion in my opinion.
