A thread for speculation, rumour, and unverified whispers...

Aaron Bower just tweeted this... Marwan Koukash has just said Salford will host a press conference next month - "and you don't want to miss it" Anyone want to speculate? ?

I also saw that, some one also said it's something to do with new evidence for the appeal?

Always makes me worry when he does things like this! Can only see it being a expletive filled moan fest with little real content. Hope I'm wrong and it's all positive...

If it is to do with the salary cap issues I just hope it is an informed presser and not a rant with hollow allegations and promises.
Don't know why but I get the feeling that the Marquee player rule might be about to be evoked, read this week that Gallen was a possible target, don't know if he was the player I'd splurge on but would add steel to an already performing pack.

Paul Gallen seems to be doing the rounds as our marquee signing next season. Thoughts?
Personally, I'd be happy as long as it was a one year contract with an option. He's getting on and a bit beat-up, but his leadership and presence would be fantastic.
Still think we need a really good hooker next season.

For me a decent go forward hooker would complete the team, but not too sure who we'd get on the marque, maybe Sheens can unearth a gem in Aus playing reserve grade.
The back line is one of the strongest currently in SL and with Vidot almost there will be even stronger, this is one area we also have ample quality depth.
The halves are working well and with Josh Wood now coming through we have some back up.
The forwards could be improved by adding some steel in the form of a Gallen type player, but we have a lot of young forwards who have potential and are improving.

The plans IW has for Josh Wood are all related to the No9 role. Ian feels this role will be more beneficial for both parties, with Tomkins only signing for a single season, I think or should I say I've been told, that Wood will be the one to fill his boots if he continues impressing This Gallen rumour lately has unearthed again, I know it had legs 6 months ago, but TBH I'd be gutted spending a fortune on a Prop like Gallen. Cronulla hasn't had half the return on what they've splashed out on him. Give me Cory Parker or Sam Thiaday before Gallen any day.

Parker would be my choice to.

I wouldn't be impressed with gallen, but, whoever we get will be agreed or chosen by sheens. He doesn't sign players just from name or hype, if we sign him it will be part of sheens plan. So I won't be doing cartwheels but I'll give sheen the benefit of any doubt!

Last 2 or 3 games Gallen has played for Cronulla he's been immense, scored a cracking try this week when beating Brisbane.
For me we need to find a marquee player with not so many miles on the clock who is more than a 1 year investment, that lad Cartwright looks handy, get his Uncle putting in a good word ;-)

Anyone who has watched his last two games can vouch for how good a player Gallen is. He was incredible over the last two games. I'd have snapped him up a few years ago, but the mileage will be telling. For a one year deal I can't see it being anything but a no-brainer cert. He's still got it and even though I'd have liked him two years ago, I still think that his attitude, commitment, and leadership would really launch our young side.

We all would've loved Moz a few years before we got him, but in the end we still got 3 good years service out of him and he powered on till the end still putting in some very good performances and putting the young lads to shame.
Plus the fact the gulf in class and intensity between the NRL and SL I think he'd go well for a couple of seasons and what a role model for the young forwards.
I'd love a younger top current NZ or Aus forward as our marque but realistically some one like Gallon / Parker coming to the end of their careers is all were going to attract....aren't we?

You're probably right, but I think Sheens is a big draw for the current crop of seasoned NRL stars. I can see us picking up a decent marquee player whenever we choose to do so. Teams like Wigan, Leeds, and Saints can play on their recent history and name. We can't do that, but we have a former Australia National coach pulling the strings and Aussie players would definitely feel that as a magnet to take on a new challenge. We can hope can't we?

If Gallon or a.another did sign as a marque do they count on the overseas quota as we currently have 7.
Most are contracted to 2017.
