I thought it was Lewis who kept banging the same drum. My thoughts on the ref .................. + ................. and ................! I just watched Sky and Tomkins and Wilkin are awful and painfully negative, and made a tight, hard fought and fascinating game sound poor! And we wonder why our crowds don't grow, if you were a new fan listening to them it's unlikely we'd see you again any time soon! My mate (Wigan fan) messaged me earlier and said that Sky team said the occasion had got to us. I don't agree with that at all. We went toe to toe with Leigh first half and there was some outstanding defence from both teams on show. We just lacked that nouse in attack when we had limited attacking field position. The players gave their all and it just wasn't to be. Most of this squad will be around next year and if we can bring in 3 or 4 quality recruits then we'll be a threat again. Definitely heading in the right direction.🙂 I brought a couple of newbies last night and despite them being big football fans they loved it. They might not commit to season tickets but they're definitely keen on getting in a few more games next year.

A big crowd and we didn't show up. Our attack was flat throughout. The passing was slow and too many times the player receiving the ball was stood still when he got it. If Mellor making breaks from the play the ball was a tactic, personally, I think we should have played Atkin instead there as he has that dynamic step off that takes teams by surprise. Bullock and Ormondroyd should have been on the the bench. I don't think Sneyd looked 100% fit last night either. A disappointing end to the season but ultimately I didn't expect us to get to the play offs when the season started. Credit Leigh, though they did a job on us and stifled the threat of Lafai and Nene. They are on a roll where we have been stop/start over the last couple of months and resting all the players against Wigan didn't pay off. At this time of year it's all about momentum and feeding off the adrenaline. That drops with the week off, just like we all struggle to get back into work after a week off.
Supporters wise, big games have always attracted idiots going back to the 70's. I can remember a huge fight at the Premiership Final against Saints at Swinton and the the Cup Semi-final at Burnden Park with Wigan, running battles everywhere. The thing at the AJ Bell is the stewards are useless. They were nowhere to be seen when the fight took place, basically they are nothing more than ushers to direct people to seats. As for people on the pitch, the tannoy should have put announcements out but its a reflection of society today where people seem to think they can do whatever they want.

No, it wasn't the occasion, Leigh put us under the cosh defensively and closed down most options. They were quick off the line and their forwards prevented our attempts to progress the game. Even so we were in with a chance and were playing not so well as we can.
Rowles took a gamble and it almost paid off!
Good to hear about your newbies though!

Don’t think the attack has clicked all year to be honest , we’ve won games mainly by 6 points ish which suggests our defence is what’s won us games Think Leigh play against us well , step up quick and cut down the pass to Nene and Lafai who are our only real strike players who can make things happen aside from a Sneyd kick Leigh had Lam , Edwin Ipape , Moylan , Asita so they’ll get opportunities and were pretty clinical Don’t think we were dominated in the middle but just struggled to create much Hopefully a preseason with Nikorima and Sneyd might gel as at the moment the ball must go Sneyds side 90% of the time so defending it is a lot easier

A good year for the club on and off the field after a poor off-season.
I understand why Rowls went with Brierly on the bench, but it wasn't our night after Partington's slip, which helped them score another try, and then Ryan was coming on at the wrong time.
We should have started Singo and Wright to lay a solid platform and then had Ormondroyd, Bullock and Lewis on the bench with Atkin. We always look more fluid and organised in attack when Atkin is on the pitch, and we missed some punch last night. Jack and Joe could have given us that off the bench, and Lewis always works his socks off.
Overall, Leigh were the better team on the night, and we can't feel too down about it. Although I would have loved a trip to Wigan next week.

Not playing Jack O and Bullock lost us the game. Hopefully Rowley will learn from this moving into next season. Btw is Bullock leaving Wire?

I personally think the pack held their own against leigh. It was again the speed of the play the ball that unstuck us and ibape was the best player on the pitch who we couldn't contain for 80 mins. Rowley was right to go with a more mobile forward line up as we had to try and get on the front foot with quick ptb and try to get leigh on the back foot. We struggled to do it and when we did, we didn't have an outlet that could penetrate leigh effectively enough. 2 main points for me and again with hindsight Penalties and discipline was poor again, which cost us so much field position. We needed to be better, but were crap and you can't do that against the top 6 teams as they will punish you and they did. Hankinson to FB limits us on attack. Yes he runs harder and can probably defend better (debatable at times in friday), but from a key pivot position he minimizes your options. The ball went to him wide as the pivot a few times and the play just stopped. Brierley offers us more pass, passing and a kick threat which worries the hell out of teams. Not a slight on Hank as he's not a FB and has been a good signing. Overall, the best team won and again I think Rowley got out thought and our discipline was not good enough. Things to learn from for next season.

I honestly don't think discipline is the issue. During the periods where we were dominant we were penalised more than their defence and that's more or less unheard of in RL.
Leigh were the slightly better side and deserved their win!

Leigh were the slightly better side and deserved their win! No doubt they deserved the win. But to say discipline is not the issue doesn't make sense. We gave up so many yards by being constantly penalized for stupid things. We gave up so many opportunities to put pressure on them defensively or gave up good attacking position because of it, its infuriating. It also puts more strain on your fitness as the game progresses as your turning over ball constantly. You just can't do that and expect to win. It doesn't mean we would have won, but jeez it doesn't half increase your chances

Secondly when we were dominant the decisions at this time normally almost entirely go the way of the dominant side and although this never makes the difference between winning and losing it does make a huge contrast and sap your energy levels. It was not the refs fault we lost but his interpretation didn't help to say the least and if he doesn't officiate SRD again I won't be sorry!

There is a difference between discipline and mistakes your correct. We however were discussing discipline and something which we were poor at keeping the other night.
