Sorry, quick rant but I felt this needed posting.
Which bright spark brought the drum last night? Any time any sort of a chant got started said bright spark decided to drum another tune. Sorry, but they add nowt to the atmosphere so can we please not encourage it (if anyone on here knows the perpetrator feel free to have a quiet word in their earπ).
The planned Malc Alker chant also got ruined by it as well.π

To be honest, there have been many observations that, at times, the atmosphere at home matches is non-existent,at certain points during games, so if they can get their timing right, and coordinwith the Devil mascot and there drum maybe it might make things a bit livelier. Unless, especially during the summer months, it's like going for a walk in Heaton Park, Politr conversation but mainly there to get a bit of sun.

We need to petition the club or some thing to get the viking horn back. That was immense. Anyone know why it stopped?
Bring back the horn!!! Yeah baby

Did we stop when Widnes became the Vikings? Itβs from a film as well so maybe copywriter issues? I often find away salford crowds better atmosphere. The south stand can be quiet some games but other games good.

Yeah baby Yeah I don't mind this at all.π There was relevance to it with the Steve "The Viking" Foster stuff and it was a bit unique. It also didn't accompany every terrace chant that was started in the Shed. I've always loved our fanbase for the fact "we don't need a drum to sing". Headingley was farcical and whoever had the drum was just aimlessly bashing it. I'd like to think we're better than the Hudds Cowbeller the Wire drummer & the Leeds South Stand Philharmonic Orchestra. Not once have I ever tuned into a sporting event and thought "wow this is so much better with all that background vuvuzela/drum noise"! If we can't generate an atmosphere without artificial help then we may as well give up now.π€·ββοΈ

Unless, especially during the summer months, it's like going for a walk in Heaton Park, Politr conversation but mainly there to get a bit of sun. One of the issues with the south stand is the fact that a lot of the "old school" singers, who were probably brought up in The Shed at The Willows, decided to take up West Stand seats for the side view at the SCS and the atmosphere got slightly diluted because of it. I'm a south stander and generally one of the louder (some may say gobbierπ) ones in my area. It can be hard work getting others to join in at times as I don't stand in the central part where most of the more vocal fans are. Obviously standing up helps create an atmosphere as singing/chanting isn't best done sat down so West Standers don't generate as much noise. I think part of the thinking of opening up the East Stand more often is fans being able to stand and sing whilst getting a slightly better view than from South and not having to worry about those in the seats around them telling them to sit down due to blocking the view etc. If both stands are open against Cas, I'm hoping we can maybe get a bit of South/East Stand rivalry going where each group almost wants to outdo the other in generating an atmosphere.π€

It was a couple of young kids. Was nothing wrong with it and they seemed to enjoy it.

Thing is I can understand why people do it, and I understand why people hate it
It seems to have provided more debate than the game itself which may explain the lack of atmosphere at the AJ Bell

If the club are to succeed in increasing our home attendances then we should encourage as many youngsters as we can to support the club.

PS I hope that there will be a tribute paid to the late Malcolm Alker at the Castleford game.

I'm all for encouraging new fans but encouraging them to bring musical instruments absolutely kills the atmosphere for me and I'm sure a few other posters/fans. There are plenty of other ways to attract kids. Did we need a drum at Hudds in the playoffs? At Wigan in 2019? At Wire for the CC semi? At the GF?
The atmosphere those days was immense and as good as anything I've heard in 30 odd years as a Salford fan. On 2 or 3 occasions at Leeds a chant was started and then the drum started up playing a different "tune" which completely killed the chant.
I've seen a couple of drummers come and go at Salford City over the past few seasons as they went down like a lead balloon and soon got the hint and disappeared. If it becomes a permanent fixture in the South Stand I'll be moving to another part of the ground I'm afraid. Maybe it irritates me more than others and if that's the case so be it. I'll move to East Stand and start handing out vuvuzelas...π
