Well the Saints friendly has been announced, I'd assume we'd play another game pre season against lower league opposition to give the lads a run out. I know we have had a bloody awful Pre Season headline wise (Leeds Live and SARL) but our team 1-17 is not as bad as the UK media are suggesting. No idea who Rowley will set us up by I'd pay good money to watch this 1-17: Brierley Ryan Cross Lafai MacDonald Cust Sneyd Singleton Mellor King V Watkins Wright Shorrocks Partington / Ormondroyd / Stone / Atkin We add another few players to this squad and we have a decent bunch of players, our forwards are certainly better this year. Decent 17 but I can’t agree the pack is stronger? We’ve only brought shorrocks in and while I think he’s going to be good he’s not a dominant forward we badly need. I see this pack getting dominated again this year unless we bring someone in to help out We add another Prop and the pack is competitive. We just need a big forward. Last year injuries hurt us, BTW is Alex Gerrard finally fit and ready to go?

That’s a big if and no I don’t believe he’s been to pre season yet I just have to disagree in thinking are pack is competitive we need all fit and at 100% to compete and that’s unlikely

If this isn't a competitive pack ....
Singleton Mellor King V Watkins Wright Shorrocks
Partington / Ormondroyd / Stone
we may as well give up now!

There's no doubt we are weaker across the board than last year, and not just in depth, but the starting 17. Let's see who we are able to bring in before the season starts. I still think we'll be competitive and I believe last year we should have made the 6 (barring ref calls on three home games), but this year I think 8-10 is more likely... but who knows how we jell? Often backs against the wall can improve performances too.
But, as for the team.
---Back 5: Weaker --- Brierley, Cross, and Lafai are the same. Nene and Ryan is a downgrade on Sio and Burgess but I think we'll be okay. I hope Burgess stays though.
--- Halfbacks: weaker --- Cust isn't as good as Croft, he couldn't get on he oicth at Wigan as SO of hooker, but I do think Rowley can get something from his running game and play to those strengths. If Shorrocks does play 13 and Partington moves to prop, I think that will help Cust.
--- Backrow: Same --- Watkins, Stone and Partington all return, though I do expect Partington to play prop and Shorrocks will play LF so we'll be looking for a different style of play from our 13 this year.
--- Hooker: Weaker --- Mellor isn't a specialist hooker as Ackers was. Ackers came on leaps and bounds for us under Rowley's coaching and I think he'll have a similar impact on Mellor, we just need to give it a bit of time. Mellor has essentially always been a Championship HB but got some hooker rotation ateigh which will put him in good stead. He's also and intelligent player, and against I think our play will alter slightly based on this. I hope to see him coming out of acting half more than Ackers which will allow our Halfbacks to start wider from the PTB. I also expect Atkin to specialise more at hooker too and not be rotated in at LF during the game (Partington and Shorrocks will do that).
--- Props: Similar --- King, Ormonroyd, Sidlow and Gerrard return. Singleton was with us at the back end of last year tough I'd obviously prefer Dupree. Wright returns and he was brilliant last year and we really missed him. I also expect Partington to join this rotation and at times he'll move to LF. I think Singleton and Partington will start, with King, Ormondroyd and Wright coming off the bench.
It'll be interesting to see how we play. An show the new guys settle into our spine at 6, 9 and 13. I do expect us to play a little different, as we have hands on the inside (Shorrocks) as well as on the outside with Sneyd and Cust. With Mellor also coming out of acth half with his HB brain, it should improve our attack in the middle third.andnhoepfuly pull defences inside before switching outside with wider passing.

Think this a pretty good assessment. Teams like fc hudds and cas have done a lot of recruiting so they could be different this year 9/10 is my guess

Yea, I'd have us above London and Cas at the moment and competing with others who have brought a lot of new faces in - Leeds, Hull FC, and Hudds.
Following on from above I can also see use starting with Singleton and Ormonroyd at prop with Partington at LF and Mellor at hooker. Then between 20 and 30 minutes we stagger four subs - Wright and King at prop, Shorrocks at LF, and Atkin at hooker to speed up the game and take advantage of tired legs.
I'm really hoping Ormonroyd steps back up this season. I think he played with a kick last year. Having him back to the form of the previous year would be a huge bonus.

All of which says in bright neon headlines, "We might as as well give up now!"Look we’d all love to be optimistic but with the squad we have and the players we’ve let go/brought in this is where we are as black dog said we are weaker then last season

I think we might need to use the words of Thomas Keneally ready for the last game of next season now, "Blow that whistle ref!"

I am not getting into an argument about stronger or weaker Because the game is played on grass not paper. Leeds have spent a shed load of money and look at them at any other club and Hetherington is toast I think with a bit of luck we finish half way and that will be a good season
