Paul King said he was the outstanding candidate for the job so we have to trust the club's judgement as they're in a better position than us to make the call.

Well anybody got any background or anything
I just find it abit odd when the club said we had interest from NRL and union like if we did that would have been some really good coaches from aus and union

Salford roots must have been a big ✅ but Mark is also an expert in his field.

The issue again with the club is I would say he’s the cheapest option im afraid!they say they have interest from the nrl and rugby union and choose a guy from Eccles?!that’s two now from Eccles rugby league club him and the commercial guy!personally I think it’s just a lazy appointment but time will tell just my opinion!

Who is to say someone from overseas or Union are best placed to deliver on a citywide youth strategy for Rugby League. The guy is a Uni Lecturer and an advisor to elite sports clubs in his field. The fact he knows our city and Grt Manchester is a plus.

Incorrect, he was the exceptional candidate amongst a strong field of candidates. The interview process involved the RFL and other outside agencies and they all agreed that Mark was THE best candidate. Why would where you live prevent you from being the best in your field???

I feel that your post is just a lazy comment on a subject that you obviously had made your mind up about before the appointment was announced.

Why do we always try and look for negatives in everything the club does?
I assume those that know how to run a Rugby League Club better than those currently in charge are prominent members of the CBS? Your experience and vast knowledge would be invaluable.🙏

Nobody was in the interview, nobody saw the list of candidates, nobody knows the size of the budget..which presumably wasn’t large…its a stepping stone in the right direction…the guy has run the Development Squad from nothing since 2019 and with some success, he knows the people involved….if he makes a success of it, great…if not he’ll be replaced as Marshall was
The benefit of him being from Eccles and the Community scene is that’s where it’s got to start so our young up and comings don’t go to Warrington or Wigan…believe it or not I’m happy that we’re moving in the right direction and it’s good to see half a dozen young lads moving towards the first team squad inc those filched from others as we did with a Myler and Ratchford from Widnes many moons ago
Its an iterateive process, you’ve got to start somewhere ( which was 2019) and the big issue as always is…the funds…good luck to the guy…if he’s been doing it for peanuts for 5 years so he deserves his chance above all others with resources

Surely it is better to have someone speaking to these kids who is local and speaks their language rather than a rah rah or an Aussie.

Is it the Mark Moran who was our former hooker Same name but different fella. Previously worked with Widnes and as already mentioned a University lecturer. I'd argue it's a top class appointment rather than a cheap option

I think someone's regretting their post now and realising it's made them sound a bit of a numpty. Think 99% of is agree this is a great appointment.

Being completely honest just because he’s from community doesn’t mean he’s the right person for the job … back at the willows the academy teams was run by local community members from the amateur teams mixed with few professional coaches … I’m sure Matt parish said something like you need professional coaches in the youth level not local coaches
And I was around the club during 2019 and early 2020 I don’t remember this guy being around or involved in anything
