What a great game. Their last try came from a lost ball by Hurrell which was given as a penalty. Next few games are definitely winnable. Fantastic game and brilliant performance from us, feared the worst after that start and few dodgy decisions but feel that evened out and we grew in to the game. Well deserved win. On your last point… they are generally the games we don’t turn up in. I’d say cas and hull are as much of a test as today, I'd go so far as to say that our next game will be the sign of whether we have changed as a club. We should be beating Hull easily, but Salford has a habit of beating top sides then playing the bottom clubs and getting beat. I'll believe more if we put Hull to the sword in a fortnight. Weird being a Salford fan eh?

I think one of the big changes in our defence or D, is that we’re now tackling Oz style ie 3 men in every tackle and then putting them to the ground
Don’t think King V played many minutes…has he actually been injured
And missing at least 4 players who’ve hardly appeared and probably won’t be here next season Sidlow, Dixon, Hellewell, Cust…so if this is the base of out squad…without the thieves from Leeds…and Rowley stays, then things looking good for next year

Great result, tough but enjoyable watch in the end. Just got home and watched it again and to be fair, thought the ref had a good game and got most of the calls right. Still some 50/50s that could have gone our way but didnt 't matter in the end.
I've got some thoughts on Rowley to Leeds but will put them on the other thread - 'Leeds'

Brilliant defensive display especially in the forwards, Mellor is class and would be an asset at 6. Atkin looked more effective linking play today and Hankinson again was immense at fullback. Saints are vulnerable out wide. Stone did very well covering centre. Glad we’ve got a week off now before Hull. We might have Cust and Brierley back by then. Spoke to Jack O and he’s hoping to play later this season.

Yes, our defence is the difference this year. We are very well drilled. It still does rely on the lads being totally invested in working hard for each other, something that is wholly harder to instil. But we've been on another level this season for this, particularly the last four or five weeks. We're also starting to attack with our customary flair now the weather is picking-up.
Interesting in the post match interviews that the backroom staff had identified Saints weaknesses and they'd trained all week with this in mind and that a couple of the tries were down to this.
Hats-off all around to the players and backroom staff, a great second double of the year over a top six side.
Also, as a side note, considering we all think that our forwards are our weak spot, credit to them the last few weeks as they've dominated much bigger packs. I think PR prefers mobile, fit forwards and they are really proving themselves recently.

Not sure that’s true re the mobile pack I spoke to Paul a while back and he’s looking for some big props, there’s just not many about so we work with what we have. Personally I think you need a verity you need a few mobile grafters then 1/2 who can really bend the line Big fan of Lewis so far

He's certainly managing with the hand he's dealt, that's for sure. Yes, Lewis is looking like a decent addition.

That's how the great Cliff Evans revolutionised the game in the sixties with his great Swinton team mobile forwards that could play.

Saints are an ageing team…lots of the big stars injured and coming to the end…they’ll need a complete overhaul soon
